Vows

Hilary's vows to Greg

I, Hilary, take you, Greg, to by my marriage partner
You who have already been my partner for so long
My movie partner, tandem bike partner, concert partner, adventure partner
I vow to encourage you toward your purpose, and to accept your encouragement toward mine
I vow to honor your genius, especially in all the things I do not know
I promise to sing your song back to you when you have forgotten the words
I vow to ask you to be no one other than yourself, and to be open to your becoming
I vow to live into the ways you challenge me
I vow to sing with you when we cannot fall asleep
I vow to allow you to slow me down and remind me to look up every now and then
I vow to practice wonder, remembering you showed me the true shape of snowflakes and that you bring birch bark home to me
I promise to honor the presence of God, Spirit, and community in our lives, remembering that we do not have to live life alone
I reaffirm our commitments to living lives for justice and liberation for all and to hold each other accountable to those commitments
I vow to raise our children honestly and with intention
I vow to respect your parenting and your life choices
I vow to do my own work towards health and wholeness so that I may bring vitality to our marriage
I promise to always come home to you and to savor the comfort I can find next to you
I vow to grow deeper trust in you and in us, and to act in ways worthy of trust
In the presence of our families and community, these are my sacred vows to you
